Pyalala upma or puffed rice upma




Pyalalu or puffed rice upma is a very flavourful and delicious breakfast. It is basically a tiffin item so you can have it as breakfast or dinner or also as a snacks in the evening time. It can be prepared in 10mts of time. So its kind of quick tiffin item to prepare. Also can be prepared with the items always available at your kicten. So lets start with the recipe......
Ingredients:
Pyalalu or puffed rice- 2 cups
Salt- to taste
Oil- 4tbsp
Mustard seeds- 1tsp
Jeera- 1tsp
Turmeric- 1/8 tsp
Urad dal- 2tsp
Channa dal- 2tsp
Green chillies- 3 no
Red chillies- 2 no
Curry leaves- 6 no
Coriander- 2tbsp
Tomato- 1 medium
Lemon juice- 1tbsp
Onion- 1 medium
Grated carrot, boiled potato- 1tbsp (Optional)
Ginger and garlic paste- 1tsp(optional)
Preparations:
1. Take 1 cup of water in a bowl, add puffed rice to it and let it soak in the water abt 3 to 4 mts. Then drain all the water and seperate the puffed rice, keep aside.
2. Chop the green chillies, coriander leaves, onions, tomatoes into small slices and keep aside.
Method:
1. In a pan, heat oil, add mustard seeds when they starts crackling, add jeera, turmeric powder, urad dal and channa dal and let it fry abt 2mts.
2. Add curry leaves, green and red chillies, onions, ginger and garlic paste and fry till the onions becomes transparent.
3. Add tomoto slices, grated carrot and boiled potato, mix well and cook till the tomatoes turns soft.
4. Now add salt, wet puffed rice and mix well and let it cook abt 5mts and stir in between.
5. Finally check the seasoning. Turn off the heat, add lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves.
That's all the super delicious puffed rice upma is ready to be served.
You can serve this with any mango pickle or lemon pickle or you can have it as it is.
