Crunchy Puffed Rice or Crunchy Pyalalu

This is a recipe for crunchy puffed rice or pyalalu or maramaralu. It is easy to prepare. This is a perfect snack item with tea or can be taken as a breakfast also.

Here is the recipe:
Ingredients:
1. Pyalalu or puffed rice- 2 cups
2. Oil- 2tbsp
3. Mustard seeds and jeera- 1 tsp each
4. Curry leaves- 1 spring
5. Ground nuts- 2 tbsp
6. Salt- to taste
7. Red chillies- 4 no
8. Til nuts- 1tbsp
9. Daniyalu or coriander seeds- 1tbsp
10. Turmeric- 1/4 tsp
11. Putnalu or fried channa dal- 2tbsp
12. Garlic- 5 nig pods
13. Red chilli powder- 1/2 tsp (optional)
Preparations:
1. Dry roast the puffed rice in a pan till the colour of them change to little golden colour. Don't fry too much. Just make sure that they are crispy. Turn off the stove and cool them into a separate bowl.
Method:
1. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, jeera and when they crackle, add turmeric, curry leaves and fry.
2. Add ground nuts, coriander seeds, til nuts and fry a minute till they change to golden colour.
3. Add red chillies, salt, sugar (1 tsp- optional), red chilli powder, hing mix well and turn off the stove.
4. In a bowl, take roasted puffed rice, add the masala (the fried ingredients), mix well, check the seasoning.
The yummy and super crunchy puffed rice is ready to be served.
Tip:
1. This can be stored in a air tight container about 1 week to 10days of time.
2. Kids love this receipe. If you are preparing for kids, avoid red chilli powder and add more nuts to make it more tasty..
