Plain Dosa




Dosa is a famous breakfast item in South India. Everyone love to eat this dish. You can serve the dosa with Aloo kurma, groundnut chutney, putnala chutney or coconut chutney etc. It can be made in no time once the batter is ready.
Ingredients:
Rice- 4 cups
Urad daal- 1 cup
Channa daal- 1/2 cup
Moong daal- 1/2 cup
Fenugreek seeds- 1tbsp
Atukulu(Poha)- 1/2 cup
Salt- To tatse
Water- required
All you need: Dosa skillet, wooden or steel spatuala.
Preparations:
1. Wash and soak the rice for abt 6hrs.
2. Wash and soak all the daals abt 6 hrs including fenugreek seeds.
3. Drain all the water, grind both rice and daals as a fine paste by adding enough water, atukulu in the grinder (Don't add too much water. We want the batter to be little thick).
4. Add salt to the batter, mix well and leave it aside for 6hrs or preferably overnight by covering with a lid (keep little space while covering with lid ).
Now the batter is ready to prepare dosa's.
Method:
1. Mix the batter well. Check salt.( add more if it required.)
2. Heat the dosa skillet, when it is hot, put 1 small cup or spoon of batter at the center of the skillet and spread with the cup in circular motion to outer side.
3. Put oil on the outer side of the dosa.
4. Fry the dosa on both sides till golden brown colour and crispy by adding oil.
5. Serve the dosa with any curry, kurma or chutney.
Note:
1. Dosa batter can be preserved in the fridge abt a week of time.
2. U can add finely chopped onion, tomato, green chillies, cilantro and ginger and make Uthappam with the same batter. (Posted in Breakfast folder in my blog)
3. You can also prepare Pongadalu with the same batter by adding some other ingredients (Check the breakfast folder in my blog).
4. You can either prepare thin and crispy dosa or thick dosa with the same batter.
It is very easy to prepare. You can prepare the batter (more quantity) in weekends and do different variety of tiffin items by making little changes during weekdays so that u can reduce pressure during weekdays. More helpful for working ladies. It makes their job easy.
