Mamidikaya pulihora (Mango rice)














Mamidikaya pulihora is a traditional rice or seasonal rice. I called it as seasonal rice, since in India we get mangoes only during summer season. It is traditional because for festivals like Ugadi we prepare it for Devudi prasadam. It is such a great dish and very easy too.

Ingredients:

Rice- 2 cups
Raw Mango(Very sour)- 1 big
Red chilli- 3 no
Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
Jeera- 1 tsp
Urad daal- 1 tsp
Channa daal- 2tsp
Ground nuts- 1tsp
Hing- pinch
Turmeric- 1/8 tsp
Green chilli- 4 no
Curry leaves- 8 no
Coriander leaves- 2 tbsp
salt- for taste
Oil- 1 tbsp

Preparations:

1. Wash and peal the raw mango, cut a piece and check the taste, it should not be sweet. Then grate it or chop it very finely.
2. Chop the green chilli, cilantro, curry leaves and keep aside.
3. Cook 2cups of rice, keep aside.

Method:

1. Heat oil in the pan, add hing, mustard seeds, when they pop up, add jeera.
2. Add channa daal, urad daal, ground nuts, ginger, turmeric, curry leaves, fry for 1mt.
3. Add green chilli, red chilli and fry.
4. Add grated or chopped raw mango, add salt and cook for 3mts till mango get cooked.
5. Add rice, mix well, cook abt 2mts.

Serve hot by garnishing with cilantro.
