Tomato Rice
















Tomato Rice is made of tomatoes and rice. This is my husband's favorite dish. So I make it very often, also it makes my job easy since, we don't need to prepare any side dish or curry for it, also it is cooked in rice cooker. So once all the ingredients are fried, add rice, water and close the lid, then we can chit chat or pass the time near the TV, so no tensions and no more stirring in between. What do u say???? Ok anyways here is the recipe for it.....

Ingredients:

Tomatoes- 3 large
Onion- 1 big
Green Chilli- 4 no
Ginger, garli paste- 1tbsp
Curry leaves- 4 no
Cilantro- 2tbsp
Oil- 2tbsp
Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
Jeera- 1 tsp
Turmeric- 1/8 tsp
Salt- for tatse
Urad daal- 1 tsp
Channa daal- 2 tsp
Hing- pinch
Red chilli-2 no
Green peas- 1/4 cup (Otional)
Rice- 2 cups
Water- 5 cups (or 4 cups)
Moong daal- 1/4 cup (Optional)
Butter or Ghee- 1 tbsp(Optional)
Ilachi, cloves, Cinnamon- 2 no (each)
Garam masala powder- 1 tsp
Daniya powder- 1 tsp

Preparations:

1. Wash and soak the rice and moon daal separately about 20mts.
2. Chop the onions, green chilli, curry leaves, cilantro and keep aside.

Method:

1. In a cooker, add ghee and oil, add hing, whole garam masala(ilachi, cloves, cinnamon
), mustard seeds, when they pop up add jeera.
2. Add turmeric, channa daal, urad daal, curry leaves, ginger, garlic paste and fry for 2mts.
3. Add green chilli, red chilli, onions and fry till onions becomes transparent.
4. Add chopped tomatoes, green peas, mix well and cook till tomatoes becomes soft.
5. Add salt, daniya powder, garam masala powder, mix well.
6. Drain the water from moong daal and rice and add it to cooker, mix well and roast about 2mts.
7. Then add water(Its upto you, If u want it loose, then add 1 to 2 cups of more water).
8. Mix everything well, add 1tsp of ghee on top, add cilantro, close the lid.
9. Switch off the stve after 3 vissles, serve hot with any pickle or chutney.
