Upma















Upma is a famous breakfast. Most of the people prefers it because digestion is very easy and easy to prepare with the ingredients available at your kitchen. All you need is Suji(Upma ravva). Today I am going to prepare with less ingredients. Soon I will post a rich upma which is also called Upma kitchidi with all vegetables.
Ingredients:
Suji- 1 cup
Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
Jeera- 1 tsp
Urad daal- 1 tsp
Channa daal- 2tsp
Ground nuts- 1tsp
Onion - 1 medium
Green chilli- 3 no
Red chilli- 2 no
Garlic- 2 no
Curry leaves- 4 no
Coriander leaves- 2 tbsp
Salt- for taste
Oil- 1 tbsp
Lemon juice- 1 tsp(Optional)
Tomato- 1 medium
Green peas- 1/4 cup (Optional)
Potato- 1/2 (Optional)
Water- 3 cups
Ginger- 1tsp (grated)
Preparations:
1. Wash and chop the green chilli, cilantro, onion, curry leaves, tomato and keep a side.
2. Grate the ginger.
3. Measure suji and water and keep separately.
Method:
1. Heat oil in the pan, add mustard seeds, when they crackle, add jeera.
2. Add channa daal, urad daal, curry leaves, garli, ginger, mix well and fry for a minute.
3. Add green chilli, red chilli, onion, ground nuts, stir well and fry for 2mts.
4. Add your favorite vegeables(chopped), salt, cook for a while.
5. Add suji to it, mix well and roast it till the raw taste goes out of it but don't burn the suji.
6. Meanwhile in other bowl, heat the measured water and let it come to boiling ponit.
7. Once ravva is roasted, add boiled water little by little to it and keep stirring well in other hand, becareful it will form lumps if u add water all at once.
8. Mix well, add watre or oil, or salt if required and let it cook well. Keep stirring in between.
9. Check the consistency of upma, once its done, add lemon juice, chopped cilantro to it and mix well.
Serve hot with any podi or pickle or with sugar. For this upma, u need not prepare any side dish, u can have it as it is.
